“Heartbreaking Tribute: Man City Star Dedicates England Win to Young Boy Who Passed Away During the Game”

Five-year-old Dillan tragically passed away on Sunday evening

England and Manchester City player John Stones dedicated last night’s Euros win to a little boy who tragically passed away during the game.

Dillan Ramsey, five, was first diagnosed with cancer in May 2020 and underwent grueling chemotherapy, radiation treatment, cell therapy, and a bone marrow transplant as he suffered various relapses.

The youngster and his family, including mum Amy and dad Ozzy Aksehir, had been given fresh hope in 2023 when a trip to Washington for privately-funded CAR T-cell therapy, only licensed in the US, appeared successful and led to the ‘all-clear’ on a number of test results.

However, despite further treatment, Dillan’s cancer returned this year, and the family was told nothing more could be done. Sharing the news of his death on social media, Amy, originally from Cadishead, Salford, but now living in London, said: “Dillan passed away today at 6.15 pm. He wasn’t in pain and was still talking and making us laugh until he took his last breath. You are not in pain anymore, Dilly, my gorgeous boy.”

During Dillan’s wait for a bone marrow transplant, a testing event was held at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium and was attended by Stones. His girlfriend, Olivia Naylor, also donated £20,000 to Dillan’s fundraiser for a final clinical trial to beat his cancer.

Following England’s 2-1 victory over Slovakia on Sunday, Stones paid tribute to Dillan, saying he ‘touched’ the hearts of the footballer and his family.

“Tonight was for Dillan,” he shared. “A special little boy that touched mine and my family’s hearts. He’s an inspiration to us all. Rest in peace, little fighter. Our thoughts are with his family during this unimaginably difficult time.”

Dillan, who was born at St Mary’s Hospital, was just a year old when he was diagnosed with leukemia, just a few weeks into lockdown. At the time, mum Amy—who was later told her son was just four weeks away from dying—was still recovering from having daughter Aiyla in December. They’ve been in and out of the hospital with Dillan, with family supporting them to help care for Aiyla and their youngest daughter Leyla.

In 2021, Amy launched a scathing attack on the government over allegedly breaking Covid rules when families had to suffer the heartbreak of being separated. Angered by footage of Downing Street staff laughing over an alleged Christmas party during lockdown, she sent a public message to ‘Boris and whoever wrote the government guidelines for Covid-19’ saying they should be ‘disgusted and ashamed’. The mum-of-three explained how she had to cope with her son Dillan’s cancer battle alone, while her partner had to leave the hospital just moments after being told of the diagnosis.
