Oscar Bobb could be sidelined for at least three months following a serious leg fracture sustained during training this week, prompting Manchester City to explore potential transfer options.
Bobb, who had dazzled during City’s pre-season tour, scoring twice and providing four assists in just five games, was expected to play a key role on the right wing for the upcoming Premier League season. His performances had earned him accolades from both teammates and manager Pep Guardiola, who lauded his dynamic play.
However, the injury, a harsh setback for the 20-year-old, means he will miss the start of the season. The severity of the injury will be better understood after Bobb undergoes surgery with renowned specialist Dr. Ramon Cugat in Barcelona. Until then, it’s uncertain whether his recovery will take closer to three months or longer.
City will only be able to accurately gauge Bobb’s recovery time following the surgery and initial rehabilitation. Depending on the prognosis, the club might consider entering the transfer market for an attacking replacement.
While Savinho, signed for £33m from Troyes, and other players like Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish provide depth on the flanks, the team may still evaluate options for bolstering their attack. Kevin De Bruyne and James McAtee can fill central roles, and youngster Nico O’Reilly, who has impressed in recent friendlies, may also be called upon. Rico Lewis is another potential candidate for a midfield role if necessary.
