Manchester United are not giving up on their pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite despite recent defensive additions, including Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
United have already invested over £100 million in bolstering their defense, having had several offers for Branthwaite rejected by Everton. However, the club is prepared to wait and might revisit the transfer in a year’s time. They had previously proposed up to £50 million for the 22-year-old before securing deals for Yoro at £58.9 million and De Ligt at £42.8 million.
Branthwaite, who also attracted interest from Manchester City and Liverpool, remains a top target for United. Everton, however, have no intention of selling him to Liverpool and are firm on their valuation of around £75 million. Branthwaite, who is under contract for three more years, missed Everton’s opening match due to a groin injury.
Everton manager Sean Dyche has acknowledged that financial considerations could impact future decisions. “I’m confident that the club will do everything possible to remain competitive,” Dyche stated. “But the financial situation is something I can’t control. We’ve worked hard to balance the books and lower the wage bill, but the club’s broader financial needs will dictate our actions.”
For now, Manchester United’s main focus is on strengthening their midfield. They are actively pursuing PSG’s Manuel Ugarte as their primary target to enhance that area of the squad.
