Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, is reportedly pushing for a last-minute addition to the team before the summer transfer window closes. The Gunners are said to be making an unexpected move for Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.
As reported by Football.london, it initially appeared that Arsenal’s transfer activities had concluded for the day, following the sale of Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton and the loan acquisition of goalkeeper Neto from AFC Bournemouth. However, it seems the club has decided to make a bold move for Sterling, a player highly regarded by Arteta.
Despite the lateness of the transfer window, the existing rapport between Arteta and Sterling is expected to help expedite the deal. Furthermore, wage negotiations are anticipated to proceed smoothly.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have been eager to offload Sterling before the deadline. Their manager, Enzo Maresca, had expressed his intention to sell the England international, emphasizing that if Sterling remained at Stamford Bridge, he wouldn’t see any playing time.
Manchester United was another club approached with the possibility of taking on Sterling, potentially as part of Jadon Sancho’s ongoing transfer negotiations. According to MEN Sport, United held preliminary discussions but ultimately decided they wouldn’t need to bring in a replacement if Sancho departs.
As for United, their deadline day has been hectic, with two deals still pending. Manuel Ugarte’s transfer is nearing completion, though the exact timing remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Sancho’s future hangs in the balance, with the decision resting on United and the player to finalize the deal.
