Erling Haaland Delighted with Pep Guardiola’s Commitment to Man City as Manager Extends Deal Until 2027
Erling Haaland is “super happy” to continue playing under Pep Guardiola, who he believes is the “best manager in the world,” following the announcement that the Catalan coach has extended his contract with Manchester City until 2027.
The extension, confirmed earlier this week, is a massive boost for City, who had been facing uncertainty after Guardiola’s previous contract was set to expire next summer. With speculation surrounding his future and potential exit, Guardiola has now committed to staying, assuring the club that the ongoing legal battle with the Premier League did not influence his decision. This move has also provided an “important incentive” for Rodri, who has expressed his own desire to remain at City amid Real Madrid rumors.
For Haaland, Guardiola’s extension only strengthens his belief in the project at Manchester City, where the striker feels he is working under one of the greatest coaches of all time. Haaland told Sky Sports: “He’s the best manager in the world and I think we all know that. And he’s probably the best that ever existed on the earth.” He added, “I expected loads of things from him and he’s been delivering up to this every single second. I’m super happy, and you can also see that when I play as well.”
Despite City’s recent struggles — including a four-game losing streak, their longest since Guardiola took charge — Haaland remains confident in his manager’s ability to turn things around. The Blues have been knocked out of the League Cup, won just two of their four Champions League games, and are five points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool. However, Haaland is not overly concerned, stating, “Yeah, we lost four in a row. It’s not normal in a club like this. It hurts, it clearly does… We’re still second place, we’ve still got plenty of games left.”
Haaland emphasized his full trust in Guardiola, even in difficult times: “When you look at what he’s been doing for the club, he’s not bad, is he? So he’s got my full trust. And if he tells me something, I’d better do it because he knows the best in the end.”
As Man City looks to end their winless streak, they face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Haaland recalled a memorable 4-2 comeback victory over Spurs in January 2023 as an example of how the team can bounce back when motivated by Guardiola’s leadership: “It was a tough game, 2-0 at half-time. And I remember the speech at half-time. Pep spoke about how many times we have turned around these results, especially at home, plenty of times. So why shouldn’t we do it now? And we went out there and we just, with full force, attacked the game.”
Haaland added: “It’s difficult to stop us. It’s kind of just the whole club just towards one goal and everything. And that’s what we’ve been doing — ever since I came here, even before I came here, the club has been doing exactly that. That’s the reason why they’ve been winning six Premier Leagues in the last seven years with Pep and the whole staff, with the whole club just aiming towards one goal and just pushing towards that.”
