Sergio Aguero’s Bold Transfer Warning Spells Trouble for Liverpool’s Title Dreams

Sergio Aguero Warns Liverpool as Manchester City Eye January Reinforcements

Sergio Aguero, former Manchester City striker, has predicted that his old club will make a move in the January transfer market to replace the injured Rodri, which could prove detrimental to Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes.

Currently, Liverpool hold an eight-point lead over City at the top of the Premier League after Pep Guardiola’s side suffered yet another defeat, this time to Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Liverpool extended their advantage with a dramatic 3-2 win over Southampton, thanks to key goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah.

With a crucial match between Liverpool and City scheduled for Sunday at Anfield, Liverpool have a chance to extend their lead to 11 points in the title race. This match could be pivotal in determining whether Liverpool can make a decisive push towards the championship.

City’s injury woes have been a major factor in their recent slump, with key players like Kevin De Bruyne struggling to regain full fitness. Rodri, in particular, has been a huge loss, as the midfielder is set to miss the rest of the season due to injury.

City has already been linked with potential replacements for Rodri, with former Liverpool target Martin Zubimendi mentioned as one of the top candidates. Aguero believes his former club will act quickly to strengthen their squad.

Aguero told Stake.com: “Rodri‘s injury had a deep impact, especially when you consider he might be off for the whole season. I could imagine Pep Guardiola looking to sign a midfielder… but I’d expect it to be someone Pep is certain will be a top-quality player.”

Reflecting on City’s injury struggles, Aguero added: “It’s true, several teams have had significant injury problems, particularly City. When it happens to such key players, it’s very impactful, like Rodri being off the field. Kevin De Bruyne has bounced back but still needs to fully get back into rhythm. Several defenders have been affected too.”

He continued: “Pointing out the root cause is tricky. It’s not just Premier League teams seeing an uptick in injuries. I do believe it’s a warning sign. Ultimately, there’s no football without the players, and we must look out for them. If it truly is the number of fixtures – which can seem excessive – it’ll be up to the organisers to act accordingly.”

As Liverpool look to extend their lead, Aguero has emphasized that City won’t go down without a fight, and their efforts in the transfer market could help them recover from a difficult season.
