Rodri Addresses Real Madrid Speculation Amid Rising Tensions Over Ballon d’Or Victory
Manchester City star Rodri has revealed he would “always pay attention” to a call from Real Madrid, despite recent tensions between the two sides following his Ballon d’Or triumph over Vinicius Jr.
The relationship between Rodri and Los Blancos has soured since the Spanish midfielder claimed the prestigious award, edging out the young Brazilian winger. The fallout continued during a recent radio interview in Spain, where Rodri offered some advice to Vinicius Jr., suggesting areas where he could improve his focus.
The comments didn’t sit well with some of Vinicius’ supporters, including Neymar, who took to social media to express his disapproval: “He became a talker now.”
Speculation Over a Move to Madrid
Rumors about a potential move to Real Madrid stem from two factors: Rodri has only two years left on his current contract with Manchester City, and Madrid have yet to adequately fill the void left by Toni Kroos’ departure.
Speaking to Cadena SER, Rodri acknowledged that his contract situation might soon demand attention:
“I have two years left on my contract; the time is approaching to sit down and speak again. It’s clear that [Pep Guardiola’s contract extension] is an important incentive. I feel very valued at the club. For the time being, I’m very happy.”
The 27-year-old also revealed that Real Madrid had not congratulated him on his Ballon d’Or win but admitted he wouldn’t dismiss interest from the Spanish giants:
“Obviously, when Madrid, the best and most successful club in history, calls you, it is an honour. You always have to pay attention.”
Rodri Reassures City Fans
Despite fueling speculation, Rodri reassured Manchester City fans that his future likely remains in England:
“I don’t look too far ahead, but it’s a possibility that I could perfectly end my career in England.”
City’s Struggles Continue
While Rodri recovers from an ACL injury, Manchester City have been enduring their worst form in years. The treble-winners are winless in their last six matches, including five consecutive defeats before the dramatic draw against Feyenoord.
With a crucial clash against Premier League leaders Liverpool looming on Sunday, manager Pep Guardiola will be hoping for a turnaround. A win could inject much-needed energy into a squad desperate to get back on track.
