“Disaster Strikes Again: Why Phil Foden Missed Man City’s Crucial Clash with Nottingham Forest”

Phil Foden adds to Manchester City’s injury woes, missing their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.

The setback comes at a crucial time for Pep Guardiola, who had called on his players to regroup and help reverse City’s recent struggles. Foden, who has been filling in at number ten during Kevin De Bruyne’s gradual return from injury, was absent from Wednesday’s match due to bronchitis. This marks another challenge for City, already dealing with the sidelining of Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, Rodri, and Oscar Bobb.

City’s lineup against Forest included a long-awaited return for De Bruyne, who hadn’t started a game since September. His inclusion offered hope despite Guardiola’s earlier admission: “[Stones] is not close. Still injured. He had a problem with his feet… Kevin is closer and getting better. The last few days have been even better.” Stones remains out, while Kovacic and Bobb were also unavailable.

Phil Foden’s absence adds to his recent struggles; he also missed the start of the season, citing fatigue and burnout following a taxing Euro 2024 campaign and City’s extended season. His current health setback could mean more time away as City grapples with a tight fixture schedule.

City made four changes to their lineup for the Forest clash. Ederson, dropped against Liverpool, remained on the bench, with Rico Lewis also given a rest. Kyle Walker stayed among the substitutes, while Josko Gvardiol returned to the starting XI, shifting Manu Akanji to right-back. In attack, Jeremy Doku operated on the right, Jack Grealish on the left, and Erling Haaland led the line.

City Starting XI vs Nottingham Forest:

Ortega; Akanji, Dias, Ake, Gvardiol; Silva, Gundogan, De Bruyne; Doku, Grealish, Haaland.

Despite injuries, Guardiola will hope for a decisive performance to steer City back on track.
