HUGE Get for South Carolina! Norwood Commits Over SEC Rival!

LIVE UPDATE: The Kentucky Wildcats were eyeing a late Christmas surprise in the form of Ball State transfer cornerback Myles Norwood, but the talented defender has chosen a different path.

After narrowing his options to Kentucky and South Carolina, Norwood announced his commitment to the Gamecocks on Thursday, leaving the Wildcats to seek alternatives for their secondary. The news was first reported by Pete Nakos of On3.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and 183 pounds, Norwood had an impressive 2024 season at Ball State, recording 38 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and five pass deflections. According to Pro Football Focus, he earned a strong 71.8 coverage grade over 456 snaps in 12 games. While primarily an outside cornerback, Norwood also logged 48 snaps at the nickel position, with 35 coming in a single game.

Norwood’s collegiate journey has been anything but typical. He began his career in track and field at Iowa Western Community College before briefly joining Iowa State in 2022, where he appeared in one game. After sitting out the 2023 season, Norwood transferred to New Mexico State but soon opted to move closer to home, landing at Ball State last summer.

At Ball State, Norwood quickly became a key contributor, showcasing the skills that now give him the opportunity to compete in the highly competitive SEC. His transfer to South Carolina positions him to face some of the best receivers in the country while elevating his game to new heights.

For the Wildcats, this is a notable miss. With several defensive backs departing for the NFL Draft or transfer portal, Kentucky faces the challenge of restocking their secondary. Norwood’s blend of experience and talent would have made him an immediate contender for playing time in Lexington. Instead, the Wildcats will now have to prepare to face him in Columbia next season.
