Alright folks, we’ve got some breaking news out of Columbia! South Carolina football has just landed their eighth transfer portal addition for the 2025 season, and this time it’s a big one for the defense: a cornerback!
We’re talking about Myles Norwood, formerly of Ball State. According to On3 Sports, Norwood has officially committed to the Gamecocks, choosing Shane Beamer and South Carolina over another SEC program, Kentucky. This is a significant recruiting victory for the Gamecocks, beating out a conference rival for a talented player.
Norwood brings some solid experience and production to the table. In 2024, as a junior for the Cardinals, he racked up 38 total tackles (22 solo), 10 pass breakups, and even recovered a fumble across 12 games. That’s some serious production at the cornerback position. It’s important to note that Ball State competes in the MAC and had a 3-9 record this year (2-5 in conference). They also went through a head coaching change this offseason, which likely played a role in Norwood’s decision to transfer.
Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 183 pounds, Norwood has one year of eligibility remaining. His journey to South Carolina has been interesting. He started in JUCO before spending two years at Iowa State. He had initially committed to New Mexico State for 2024 before ultimately landing at Ball State. Now, he’s heading to the SEC.
Looking at South Carolina’s current cornerback situation, O’Donnell Fortune was the only senior to participate in the 2024 senior day ceremonies. In their most recent game against Clemson, the Gamecocks started Fortune and Judge Collier at cornerback. So, Norwood adds some much-needed depth and competition to that position group. This is also a key point: Norwood is South Carolina’s first portal defensive back acquisition of any kind for 2025.
Let’s not forget where South Carolina is coming off of. They finished the 2024 season with a 9-3 record, earning them the No. 15 spot in the final College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings. They’re also set to play Illinois in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando on December 31st at 3 p.m. on ABC.
Here’s a quick recap of South Carolina’s transfer portal additions for 2025 so far:
