CONGRATULATION: LaNorris Sellers Named National Offensive Freshman of the Year

LaNorris Sellers Shines in Debut Season, Wins National Offensive Freshman of the Year

LaNorris Sellers lit up the field for South Carolina in 2024, showcasing his dual-threat talent that left Gamecock fans buzzing. On Wednesday, his stellar performances earned him the prestigious FWAA National Offensive Freshman of the Year award.

The announcement came Wednesday morning, cementing Sellers’ status as one of the brightest young stars in college football.

The 6-foot-3, 242-pound quarterback from Florence, South Carolina, chose to stay in his home state, a decision that paid off for both him and the Gamecocks. His breakout season reached its pinnacle on Nov. 30, when he delivered a clutch 20-yard touchdown run with just 1:08 left, securing a dramatic 17-14 victory over rival Clemson. The win capped a 9-3 regular season, surpassing expectations for the Gamecocks.

Sellers’ numbers were extraordinary for a freshman quarterback competing in the SEC. Through the air, he threw for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions. On the ground, he was equally dangerous, rushing for 674 yards and 7 touchdowns, including a game-winning score at Clemson’s Death Valley.

Sellers’ longest run of the season, a jaw-dropping 75-yard sprint, highlighted his game-changing speed. Averaging 4.1 yards per carry, he consistently gave opposing defenses fits with his dynamic playmaking ability.

As the foundation of South Carolina’s offense, Sellers has only begun to scratch the surface of his potential. With such a promising start, the future looks incredibly bright for both him and the Gamecocks.
