Texas Locks in GM Brandon Harris with Lucrative New Deal
As the Texas Longhorns regroup following their Jan. 10 loss in the College Football Playoff semifinal, the program is making key moves to ensure its continued success. With NFL draft declarations, transfer portal entries, and a contract extension for head coach Steve Sarkisian, Texas is setting the stage for another strong season.
Adding to the momentum, the Longhorns have reportedly secured a critical piece of their front office. Brandon Harris, the program’s general manager, has agreed to a new contract that cements his role as one of the highest-paid college football front office officials in the nation.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, “Texas and general manager Brandon Harris have agreed to terms on a new contract that will make him one of the nation’s highest-paid college football front office officials.”
Harris’ Impact on Texas Football
Harris has been instrumental in building a powerhouse at Texas. Since joining the program, he has helped secure four consecutive top-six recruiting classes, as ranked by 247 Sports. Under his guidance as general manager, the Longhorns landed the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation this past season.

Harris’ efforts have paid off on the field as well. Over the last two seasons, Texas has racked up 25 wins, and much of that success can be attributed to the rosters Harris helped assemble.
A Rising Star in the Front Office
A former quarterback for LSU and North Carolina, Harris began his Texas journey in 2019 as an offensive analyst and assistant running backs coach under former head coach Tom Herman. When Steve Sarkisian took over in 2021, Harris transitioned into the role of director of recruiting, where he continued to thrive. In 2024, he was promoted to general manager—a role in which he has excelled.
Harris’ contributions have solidified Texas as a national contender, and retaining him ensures that the program’s recruiting dominance will continue. His new contract reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining a strong foundation both on and off the field.
With Sarkisian’s leadership, Harris’ recruiting prowess, and a talented roster in place, the Longhorns are poised to keep chasing championship aspirations.
