Ex-Texas Standout Delivers Bold Take on Arch Manning’s Future

Texas Star Barryn Sorrell on Arch Manning’s Leadership: ‘Texas Is in Good Hands’

After four standout seasons in burnt orange, Texas Longhorns linebacker Barryn Sorrell has his sights locked on the NFL, following a strong 2024 campaign where he racked up six sacks and 44 tackles in his senior year. Now, he’s looking to boost his draft stock at the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, as he prepares for the next level.

Sorrell is currently projected as a late-round NFL Draft pick, but he’s confident he can make a roster and continue his football career. However, before moving on, he had plenty to say about the future of Texas football, particularly with Arch Manning stepping into the spotlight as the Longhorns’ next leader.

Sorrell on Manning: ‘Texas Is in Good Hands’

Speaking with Longhorns Country on Wednesday, Sorrell made it clear—he believes Manning is the real deal and will take Texas to new heights.

“With Arch stepping up, Texas is definitely in good hands,” Sorrell said. “He’s got that ‘dog’ in him and is going to lead Texas all the way. Everyone knows by now—Texas is back, and we’re going to stay on top for a long time.”

Sorrell also reflected on his time helping bring Texas back to national prominence, a journey that started with a difficult 5-7 season but eventually led to a return to the national stage.

“It was a journey for sure,” Sorrell said. “There was a lot of work behind the scenes. It all started after my first season when we went 5-7. We had to look at ourselves critically and buy in. Once everyone did, the faith in each other as a team just kept growing. I wanted to be able to impact us on and off the field. I’ve had some great leaders by my side to help Texas get back to where it needs to be.”

The Manning era officially begins in 2025, and it won’t be an easy start. Texas will open its season against the very team that ended its College Football Playoff run—the defending national champions, Ohio State Buckeyes.
