LIVE UPDATE: FOUR-STAR QB BRADY SMIGIEL DE-COMMITS FROM FLORIDA STATE—TOP SCHOOLS EMERGE
The 2026 recruiting cycle just got a major shake-up. Brady Smigiel, a four-star quarterback out of Newbury Park, California, has officially de-committed from Florida State, reopening his recruitment.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, several top programs are now in the mix, with the UCLA Bruins emerging as a strong contender. Other powerhouse schools—including Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Washington—are also making a push for the highly sought-after signal-caller.
UCLA AMONG TOP CHOICES FOR SMIGIEL
Ranked as the No. 48 overall prospect and No. 6 quarterback in the 2026 class, Smigiel is also regarded as one of California’s top high school players.
His father and coach, Joe Smigiel, confirmed that the young QB is eager to explore his options and visit multiple programs.
“He definitely is planning on taking some trips,” said Joe Smigiel. “After the amazing season he had—60 total TDs, only 3 INTs, best in the country, and named Mr. California for all classes—he’s gotten a bunch of interest. Especially since 11 of those TDs were rushing.”
At 6-foot-4.5, 215 pounds, Smigiel possesses the size and skill that top programs crave. The UCLA Bruins have already visited the elite quarterback, as have major programs like Washington, South Carolina, and Ohio State.
With Smigiel back on the market, expect an intense recruiting battle as these top-tier programs fight to land one of the nation’s most promising quarterbacks. Stay tuned.
