Texas Longhorns Hold Nation’s No. 1 Recruiting Class After On3 Sports Rankings Update
AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Longhorns have solidified their standing atop the nation’s recruiting rankings, according to the latest update from On3 Sports. Several key prospects received high marks, though some surprising shifts in rankings have sparked debate.
Defensive Stars Lead the Way
The biggest headlines from the latest rankings update came on defense. Texarkana (TX) edge rusher Lance Jackson emerged as the Longhorns’ highest-rated recruit, earning the No. 5 overall spot. He was followed closely by a trio of five-star defenders: safety Jonah Williams (No. 15), cornerback Kade Phillips (No. 21), and linebacker Elijah Barnes (No. 32).
One of the biggest surprises came with Manchester (GA) defensive tackle Justus Terry, who saw his ranking drop to No. 40 overall. The unexpected slide impacted his On3 consensus ranking, knocking him down to No. 13 in the nation when factoring in evaluations from 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN.
Wide Receivers See Mixed Rankings
While Texas’ defensive recruits climbed the rankings, the Longhorns’ wide receiver commits didn’t fare as well in On3’s latest update.
Kaliq Lockett, who holds a Top 20 consensus ranking, landed at No. 36 in the On3 Sports rankings, a noticeable dip compared to other recruiting services.
The biggest discrepancy, however, came with Jacksonville (FL) wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, who was slotted at No. 108—a stark contrast to his higher rankings on 247Sports (No. 52), Rivals (No. 26), and ESPN (No. 48).
Additionally, San Antonio athlete Michael Terry was ranked No. 105 by On3, which brought his consensus average down to No. 71.
Depth Across the Board
The Longhorns’ 2025 class remains loaded with talent, featuring 15 incoming freshmen ranked inside the Top 200 of the On3 consensus. This group includes:
- 1 running back
- 3 wide receivers
- 1 tight end
- 1 athlete
- 3 defensive tackles
- 2 edge rushers
- 1 linebacker
- 2 cornerbacks
- 1 safety
Despite the fluctuations in rankings, the Longhorns remain the team to beat on the recruiting trail as they continue to build one of the most stacked classes in recent history.
