Cowboys Eyeing Texas RB Coach Tashard Choice for Key Staff Role
The Dallas Cowboys are on the hunt to round out their coaching staff this offseason, and a familiar face is in the mix.
According to Clarence Hill of AllDalls.com, the Cowboys are set to interview Texas Longhorns running backs coach Tashard Choice as they look to strengthen their offensive coaching unit.
Tashard Choice Drawing Interest from Dallas
The move comes as newly appointed Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is working quickly to assemble his staff after taking over from Mike McCarthy. Choice, widely regarded as one of the top running backs coaches in college football, has built a strong reputation for developing elite talent at the position.
Since joining Texas in 2022, Choice has mentored a string of NFL-bound backs, including Roschon Johnson, Bijan Robinson, and Jonathon Brooks. The Longhorns’ RB room continues to produce top prospects, with Jaydon Blue recently declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Before his tenure at Texas, Choice honed his skills as a running backs coach at Georgia Tech, where he helped develop Jahmyr Gibbs, now an NFL standout. His coaching career also includes a stint with North Texas and even an internship with the Cowboys in 2016, marking a potential full-circle moment if he returns to Dallas.
From College Star to NFL Veteran
Choice’s ties to the Cowboys run deep. After a standout college career, where he rushed for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Georgia Tech, he was drafted by Dallas in 2008. Over a six-year NFL career, he played for the Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, and Indianapolis Colts, accumulating over 1,500 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Now, with Dallas considering him for a coaching role, Choice could be poised for a return to the franchise that first gave him a shot in the league. His ability to develop young talent and his deep connections to the game make him a strong candidate as the Cowboys finalize their staff for 2025 and beyond.
