Could Quinn Ewers Be the Cowboys’ Future QB? Speculation Heats Up!
With Quinn Ewers officially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, the buzz around where the former Texas Longhorns quarterback might land is growing. And one name that keeps coming up? The Dallas Cowboys.
Dak Prescott’s Injury Fuels Speculation
Ewers, despite battling injuries throughout his college career, led Texas to the College Football Playoff, where they fell to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. Some fans, however, blame Steve Sarkisian’s late-game decisions rather than Ewers’ performance for the loss.
On January 15, ESPN’s Sam Block tweeted that as many as 16 teams could be interested in Ewers, including the Cowboys.
RJ Young of “The Number One College Football Show” added fuel to the fire, saying:
“It’s really going to be interesting to see if the Dallas Cowboys make a move on Quinn Ewers, if they make a move on Shedeur Sanders.”
His comments came before Sarkisian shut down NFL rumors by signing a contract extension with Texas, making it clear he wasn’t heading to Dallas. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have since hired Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, further distancing themselves from any Sarkisian-Ewers connection.
Still, with Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury in Week 9, the idea of drafting a Texas native like Ewers is picking up steam. One fan on X wrote:
“Quinn Ewers will be drafted by the Cowboys in the 2nd or 3rd round, if not 1st… Only 3 years left on Dak Prescott. Plenty of time to groom Ewers as the next QB.”
Even Longhorns Wire has speculated that Jerry Jones might be intrigued by the idea, especially if restructuring Prescott’s $240 million contract could free up space for a potential mentor-mentee relationship between the two quarterbacks.
Other Possible Landing Spots for Ewers
Not everyone is convinced Ewers to Dallas is a done deal.
In a late January mock draft, Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman of The Athletic projected that Ewers would land with the Seattle Seahawks as a second-round pick, backing up their current starter.
Meanwhile, CBS Sports listed the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and Los Angeles Rams as possible landing spots. Analysts acknowledge his strong arm but also point out areas for improvement.
“His arm is not elite, but it’s a clear strength,” CBS Sports wrote. “His overall accuracy must improve, along with his footwork.”
While Ewers is widely viewed as a mid-to-late second-round pick, the Cowboys’ ongoing quarterback situation makes them an intriguing wildcard. Could Jerry Jones make a move for the Texas product? The speculation isn’t going away anytime soon.
