SEC Disaster? Paul Finebaum Calls Out This Team’s “Miserable” Season Collapse

Texas A&M’s Late-Season Collapse Sparks Criticism from Paul Finebaum

The Texas A&M Aggies started the 2024 season with plenty of promise, only to see their campaign unravel in the final stretch. After a seven-game winning streak had them firmly in the SEC Championship conversation, the Aggies dropped four of their last five games, leaving fans frustrated and analysts questioning their legitimacy.

Appearing on The Paul Finebaum Show, SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum did not hold back when discussing Texas A&M’s disappointing finish.

“I thought the way the season ended this year was miserable,” Finebaum stated bluntly.

The Aggies opened the season with a 23-13 loss to Notre Dame but rebounded impressively, stringing together seven straight wins in the first year under head coach Mike Elko. However, their late-season struggles proved costly, with their only victory in the final five games coming against a 3-9 New Mexico State squad.

At one point, Texas A&M appeared to be a College Football Playoff contender, but their playoff hopes were officially crushed after a 17-7 loss to Texas in the season finale. Finebaum even went as far as to label them a “pretender” based on their collapse.

Now, heading into Year 2 under Elko, the Aggies will look to prove their doubters wrong and make a serious push for their first-ever College Football Playoff berth in 2025. Their journey begins with a Week 1 matchup against the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday, August 30.
