The NFL Combine is upon us, a crucial week for top college football players as they showcase their skills for NFL scouts. One player generating significant buzz was Miami Hurricanes tight end Elijah Arroyo, considered by many a potential first-round pick after his impressive Senior Bowl performance.1
However, a wrench has been thrown into those plans. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Arroyo will not participate in any Combine drills due to a knee injury sustained at the Senior Bowl.2 As Rapoport tweeted on Monday, “TE Elijah Arroyo, a potential first-round pick is not working out at the Combine due to a knee injury from the Senior Bowl, I’m told. He will be ready for his Pro Day, though, on March 24th.”
Arroyo had a breakout senior season for the Hurricanes, hauling in 35 passes for 590 yards and seven touchdowns. While Penn State’s Tyler Warren has been a prominent name in this tight end draft class, Arroyo’s Senior Bowl showing significantly boosted his draft stock, positioning him as a potential second tight end off the board, possibly in the first round.
The televised Combine events kick off on Thursday afternoon with defensive linemen and linebackers, followed by offensive players over the next three days. Here’s the schedule (all times are PT):
- Thursday, Feb. 27: Defensive Linemen and Linebackers (12 p.m. – 5 p.m.)
- Friday, Feb. 28: Defensive Backs and Tight Ends (12 p.m. – 6 p.m.)
