The LSU Tigers community is mourning the devastating loss of Kyren Lacy, a former wide receiver who tragically passed away at the age of 24 on Sunday.
Lacy died in Houston, Texas, early Sunday morning. His death comes amid ongoing legal issues stemming from a December incident in which he was accused of causing a fatal crash. According to authorities, Lacy allegedly fled the scene, leading to several charges. He was scheduled to appear before a grand jury on Monday.
During his time with LSU, Lacy made a significant impact over three seasons from 2022 to 2024. In his final year, he emerged as a standout, tallying 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns, which boosted his visibility ahead of the NFL Draft. Despite his legal challenges, he was considered a potential Day 2 pick by some analysts.
Before becoming a star in the WNBA, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese also wore the LSU jersey. Both Reese and Lacy transferred to LSU in 2022, though Lacy remained an extra season.
Reacting to the tragic news, Reese expressed her sorrow and used her platform on X (formerly Twitter) to emphasize the importance of mental health.
“Rip Kyren so sad man,” Reese wrote.
In another post, she urged compassion and awareness:
“Mental health is real. Check on your people! You never know what someone is going through!”
She followed with a message of encouragement:
“idk who needs to hear this but KEEP GOING. YOU GOT THIS!”
Before joining LSU, Kyren Lacy played for Louisiana for two seasons. While he didn’t find the end zone in his first year with the Tigers in 2022, he began to shine in 2023, setting the stage for his breakout senior season.
