“LaNorris Sellers Breaks His Silence After South Carolina’s Spring Game!”

LaNorris Sellers Reflects on Spring Game, Teammates, and What’s Next: “We’ve Definitely Improved as a Team”

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers had plenty to reflect on after the Garnet and Black Spring Game, and he didn’t hold back when asked about his team, his fellow quarterbacks, and his goals for the summer. Speaking to the media on Friday, April 19, Sellers gave a candid, wide-ranging update that offered fans a deeper glimpse into the current state of Gamecock football and where it’s headed.

Progress Through Spring

When asked about the team’s overall growth through spring practice, Sellers acknowledged there’s still work to do—but also emphasized the strides they’ve made.

“I mean, we’re always gonna have issues, because of spring ball with a bunch of new guys coming in,” he said. “Just got to keep up the chemistry, keep going, stuff like that. But yeah, we definitely have improved as a team, I would say.”

QB Room Breakdown

Sellers had high praise for the Gamecocks’ quarterback group, singling out Air Noland, Cutter Woods, Luke Doty, and Dante Reno for making the most of their opportunities.

“Air did some good stuff with what they had… stepping up in the pocket, footwork. Cutter came out, did his thing… ran in for a touchdown,” he said. “Luke has been here forever; he did his thing. Same thing with Dante — they did everything and worked with what they had.”

Snapping Mishap and Center Chemistry

Sellers also addressed a miscue during the game—a bad snap from Rodney Newsom.

“I just think it was a mistake on his part. I mean, it happens. First game in Williams-Brice,” he said, understandingly.

He was more enthusiastic when talking about Boaz Stanley, whom Coach Shane Beamer said would likely be the starting center if the season began today.

“Smart guy. He’s physical, super positive, always happy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him down… He just knows what he’s doing. He has a lot of experience at the college level.”

Young Playmakers on Display

The spring game gave fans a glimpse at promising young receivers like Brian Rowe, Malik Clark, and even Sellers’ own brother.

“They just showed up all spring, so it wasn’t really a surprise. We knew what they had coming in out of high school… They can come in and play,” Sellers noted. “Donovan Murph coming in, too. So we’ve got to be ready.”

Life in the Spotlight

Asked how his life has changed with NIL exposure and growing fame, Sellers didn’t mince words:

“It is crazy. Just going in public, like you said, doing pictures… Everybody knows you. You can’t really go in public without being recognized now.”

Summer Goals and Critiquing His Brother

Sellers plans to hone in on the fundamentals this summer, focusing on areas like footwork, patience, and anticipation. He also had a playful jab for his younger brother’s debut at Williams-Brice Stadium.

“If you’re gonna fair catch a punt, fair catch it as you catch it,” he joked. “And if you catch an outbreak route, don’t run back into it where the defense is coming from.”

Heisman Buzz?

Talk of a potential Heisman Trophy campaign has begun swirling around Sellers, but the sophomore quarterback is staying grounded.

“I won’t say it’s weird. It’s definitely different,” he admitted. “But I still got to go out and play, so I don’t look into it too much. But we all have goals.”

Spring Game Takeaway

Ultimately, Sellers was grateful for the opportunity to compete in a live game setting and said the spring game was a much-needed taste of real football action.

“Just gets a team to compete in the game setting,” he said. “I know we practice stuff, but it’s nothing like an actual game.”

With high expectations and a roster full of emerging talent, LaNorris Sellers and the Gamecocks are setting the stage for an exciting 2025 season.
