Dawn Staley Reacts to Roster Shake-Up as Gamecocks Navigate Major Offseason Changes
The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball program has seen a whirlwind of changes this April, marked by key departures, high-profile additions, and emotional moments for head coach Dawn Staley.
Three of South Carolina’s top players—Te-Hina Paopao, Bree Hall, and Sania Feagin—have taken the next step in their careers, being selected in the 2025 WNBA Draft. Meanwhile, the program has welcomed major talents through the transfer portal, including star guard Ta’Niya Latson and forward Madina Okot. Adding to the drama, sophomore standout MiLaysia Fulwiley officially transferred to LSU, one of South Carolina’s fiercest SEC rivals.
Amid all the roster movement, Coach Staley took to social media to share a heartfelt tribute to her former players—particularly Bree Hall, now training with the Indiana Fever.
In an April 25 post on X, just hours before Fulwiley’s transfer announcement went public, Staley wrote:
“Let’s gooooooo @breezyhalll!! Always ready! Always steady! Listen to your vets. It’s a safe bets. Ya dig! #barzforbreezy”
The message came in response to images of Hall going through rookie training sessions at Indiana’s facility, a moment of pride for the veteran coach.
Earlier, Staley had praised all three WNBA draftees in another post, expressing gratitude and admiration:
“Thank you Lord! Proud of @GamecockWBB @tehinapaopa0 @breezyhalll @supremenia for being selected in the @WNBA draft. @AtlantaDream @IndianaFever @LASparks y’all have some class act human beings and highly tested talented individuals! Let’s gooooo!!!”
Here’s a quick recap of the draft placements:
Te-Hina Paopao: No. 18 overall to the Atlanta Dream
Bree Hall: No. 20 pick by the Indiana Fever
Sania Feagin: No. 21 selection to the Los Angeles Sparks
Beyond roster updates, Staley has also made a key addition to her coaching staff, announcing that Wendale Farrow will join the Gamecocks as a new assistant coach—a move aimed at reinforcing leadership amid the team’s evolving identity.
Despite a dramatic offseason, Dawn Staley is clearly standing strong, celebrating her players’ success while reloading for another competitive season.
