Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers have cemented themselves as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball — and this offseason, they’ve just made a major move that’s turning heads across the NCAA.
While there’s mutual respect between Mulkey and fellow coaching great Dawn Staley of the South Carolina Gamecocks, the rivalry between their programs is fierce. That competition just intensified as LSU secured a blockbuster transfer: former Gamecocks star MiLaysia Fulwiley.
The Tigers’ acquisition of Fulwiley from South Carolina has sent shockwaves through the basketball world — and Mulkey made her excitement crystal clear.
“She’s bringing her incredible playmaking ability to Baton Rouge, standing out as one of the most electrifying talents in college basketball,” Mulkey declared. “Her ability to impact winning has been clear throughout her career, and we can’t wait to see her shine in purple and gold at the PMAC soon!”
Fulwiley, a 5-foot-10 guard from Columbia, South Carolina, leaves behind a South Carolina squad that reached last season’s NCAA Championship Game, where they fell short against Geno Auriemma, Paige Bueckers, and the UConn Huskies.
During the 2024–25 season, Fulwiley appeared in 39 games, posting solid numbers:
- 11.7 points per game
- 2.8 rebounds
- 2.0 assists
- 1.5 steals
She also shot 42.6% from the field and 25.8% from beyond the arc, despite not starting a single game.
Now heading to LSU, Fulwiley aims to boost the Tigers back into national title contention. Last season, Mulkey’s squad finished 31-6, reaching the Elite 8 before falling to the top-seeded UCLA Bruins.
With Fulwiley in the mix, all eyes will be on Baton Rouge to see if LSU can reclaim the championship spotlight.
