Former Gamecock Star Laeticia Amihere Cut Just Days Before Season Tip-Off!

Laeticia Amihere, a former standout for the South Carolina Gamecocks, has been waived by the Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA expansion team confirmed on Wednesday.

The Valkyries, entering their inaugural WNBA season, revealed their first official roster, and Amihere’s name was not included. She had signed with Golden State on February 6, just five days after being released by the Atlanta Dream.

Amihere saw limited preseason action with the Valkyries, coming off the bench in both appearances. She impressed in a narrow loss to the LA Sparks, dropping 20 points in just 19 minutes. In her second outing against the Phoenix Mercury, she tallied five points in 16 minutes.

“Thank you fams and everyone for the love,” Amihere wrote in a post on X. “To God be the glory and thank you Valkyries for the opportunity.”

Originally selected by the Atlanta Dream as the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, Amihere played 37 games over two seasons, averaging 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

Her release places her alongside Mikiah Herbert Harrigan and Bree Hall, two other former South Carolina women’s basketball stars who were also waived ahead of the upcoming WNBA season.

The WNBA regular season tips off on May 16.
