Manchester United remain determined to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG and are willing to play the waiting game as they aim to negotiate a lower transfer fee.
Ugarte, who has been a prime target for United throughout the summer, is currently priced higher than what the club is prepared to pay. PSG, who signed the Uruguayan midfielder from Sporting Lisbon just a year ago, are looking to make a profit from any potential sale. Although United are keen on securing Ugarte, they are not willing to meet PSG’s current valuation.
PSG’s acquisition of Joao Neves from Benfica earlier this summer has made them more open to selling Ugarte. United are prepared to wait until the final hours of the transfer window, hoping that PSG will lower their asking price, which is currently just over £50 million.
As the negotiations continue, United have also been considering alternative options, including Burnley’s Sander Berge, who has attracted interest from Fulham. A move for Berge could complicate United’s plans if he ends up at Craven Cottage. Additionally, United are exploring the possibility of making Sofyan Amrabat’s loan from last season a permanent deal.
Ugarte’s future at PSG is uncertain, especially after he was left out of their squad over the weekend, sparking rumors that his time in Paris might be coming to an end. Last season, Chelsea showed interest in Ugarte, but PSG outbid them.
Meanwhile, United are open to selling several players if the right offers come in, including Scott McTominay, who has also been linked with Fulham, and Victor Lindelof. Casemiro’s future at the club is also up in the air.
Manager Erik ten Hag has emphasized the need for further additions to the squad, stating, “We can’t stand still.” When asked about potential new signings, he added, “It depends on what happens in the market, but I am happy with the squad and confident as we approach the new season.”
