The club had contested these rules, arguing they were unfair, especially following Newcastle United’s acquisition by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
The APT rules had restricted how clubs could negotiate sponsorships and other financial deals. City’s successful challenge opens up new revenue opportunities for them and could change how clubs approach sponsorship agreements moving forward. Additionally, this win could potentially allow City to seek financial compensation from the Premier League for any lost income since the rules were put into place.
This legal case, however, is separate from the 115 financial breach charges that Manchester City is still facing, which are being handled by an independent panel in a London court.
