Jack Grealish is relishing his time at Manchester City and the opportunity to compete for more trophies under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, even as the future of the City boss remains uncertain.
Since joining City for a staggering £100m in 2021, Grealish has already tasted Premier League glory three times, with his crowning achievement being the historic Treble triumph in 2023. Despite this success, the England forward feels he still has more to prove after a somewhat inconsistent season. While Guardiola has remained one of Grealish’s strongest supporters, the relentless pursuit of silverware at City ensures that no player can rest on their laurels.
Speaking about his manager, Grealish was full of admiration: “I think the way he sees football is different to everyone else. It is something you can’t buy; it’s something that comes with years of experience. He sees football completely different from the way anyone else does. It’s so unique and so good. He is a brilliant manager and a pleasure to play for.”
Grealish is preparing for another intense title race, with City facing Wolves on Sunday—a team that managed to defeat them at Molineux last season. However, Wolves are currently languishing near the bottom of the table with no wins in their first seven games this season, making the match an important opportunity for City to consolidate their position at the top.
City’s squad remains hungry for more success, and Grealish insists the drive to win is stronger than ever, despite Guardiola’s contract running out at the end of the season. The players, according to Grealish, are determined to keep their winning mentality alive.
“The manager feeds that into us,” said Grealish. “But it also comes from us as players. When you’ve won as much as we have, you don’t want that feeling to stop.”
He continued, “That feeling of lifting trophies never goes away. It’s one of the best feelings in football, to win silverware with your teammates after a long and hard season. It’s something that doesn’t fade, and hopefully, we can experience it again this year.”
Grealish is fully aware of the challenges ahead, with the Premier League more competitive than ever. “This season, you look at all the teams, and anyone can beat anyone,” he said. “Whether you’re playing at home or away, every game has been tough so far.”
At the moment, City are battling with Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the table, but Grealish recognizes the quality across the league. “You’ve got great teams around, and even Chelsea have looked really strong this season. We know it’s going to be difficult, but hopefully, we’ll be lifting that trophy again come the end of the season.”
The hunger for victory remains insatiable at Manchester City, and with Grealish playing an integral role, they aim to secure more silverware as they navigate another demanding campaign.
