“Maresca Breaks Silence on Surprising Sideline Moment with Malo Gusto: ‘Players Will Need to Learn…'”

Sharp-eyed Chelsea fans spotted an intriguing moment in last weekend’s clash with Liverpool, when coach Enzo Maresca took a break in play to have a chat with Malo Gusto, who was filling in at left-back and struggling a bit. Surprisingly, it was Gusto who did most of the talking, with Maresca listening closely—a rare sight, since it’s usually the coach giving the advice.

When asked about it at his press conference, Maresca described it as a quick, live coaching moment:

“[For sure it’s something that shows we are in the process, and the players will need to learn and to understand things. That moment with Malo was just a doubt that he had in that moment, so he was asking for clarification, and we were just explaining to him, that’s all,]” he explained.

Maresca’s Leadership Style Respected by Chelsea Players

Maresca also addressed recent praise from his players, who have commended his supportive and balanced approach, especially helpful with a squad brimming with young talent eager to learn and grow. He explained:

“[I think it’s really important, it’s part of our job, especially sometimes at half time when we have 15 minutes to adjust things, we need to use the right words because the time is very short. So I try to use that time also to adjust things, as well as motivation and these sorts of things. I just try everything to help them.]”

With Mauricio Pochettino previously a beloved figure at Chelsea, Maresca faced a challenge in winning over the players—but so far, his calm approach and knack for clear communication have made a positive impression.
