“Arne Slot Challenges Liverpool to Conquer Away Games for Title Glory”
As Liverpool prepares for a high-stakes showdown against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, head coach Arne Slot is fully aware of his team’s struggle to secure wins on the road against the Premier League’s elite. Last season, Liverpool claimed just one away victory against top teams like Arsenal, City, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Aston Villa.
Slot emphasized that winning tough away fixtures is essential for any team with title ambitions, pointing to Manchester City’s path to success. “It’s such a long time ago, but I remember Pep’s first year at City when they struggled with away games,” Slot reflected. “Then, in his second year, that changed—like when Kevin De Bruyne scored that huge solo goal against Chelsea. That moment marked the beginning of City’s big away wins.”
Slot, who’s set a remarkable record by winning 11 of his first 12 games at Liverpool, believes Liverpool’s title hopes hinge on better performances in difficult away matches. “If you want to win this league, no matter who it is, you need to win a few of those five, six, or seven very challenging away games,” he added, noting fixtures against powerhouses like Chelsea, United, Tottenham, and Arsenal.
Last season, Liverpool’s away form against top sides impacted their title bid significantly. They finished third, seven points behind Arsenal, and Slot noted how a single result could’ve tightened the gap. “If you look at Arsenal last season, I think it was seven points in between Arsenal and Liverpool,” he observed. “The home game was a one-one draw, and Arsenal won the away game. If we could change that away result, it would have narrowed the difference to just one point.”
As Liverpool heads into this weekend’s clash, Slot’s message is clear: if the Reds want to stay competitive at the top, they’ll need to bring their A-game to every tough away venue.
