Jeremy Doku’s Journey at Man City: How a €55M Signing Found His Groove with Help from City Stars
Flying Start.
Since arriving at Manchester City, Jeremy Doku has made a remarkable impact. The Belgian winger joined City after their historic Treble win, with a €55M transfer in the summer of 2023. And in his debut season, he didn’t disappoint, helping Pep Guardiola’s team secure a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title. Doku tallied three goals and an impressive 10 assists across 29 appearances, quickly proving his worth on the City roster.
Settling into the City Family
In a recent YouTube feature with Man City’s official channel, Doku opened up about his journey so far, crediting two of his teammates who made him feel at home in Manchester. Former Blues defender Nedum Onuoha asked Doku who he felt closest to in the squad. The winger mentioned Nathan Ake and Kevin De Bruyne as instrumental in helping him adjust to the City setup.
“Honestly, this is a squad where you love everybody. I’m next to Nathan [Ake]. When I arrived, Nathan and Kevin [De Bruyne] were really the ones because, obviously, my English wasn’t like now…they speak Dutch, so it was easier for me,” Doku explained, sharing how the supportive team environment eased his transition.
De Bruyne’s High Praise
De Bruyne, who has seen Doku’s progression firsthand, praised his development during the first season. Reflecting on his growth, De Bruyne shared, “Jeremy has gotten a lot better… He started very strong with goals and assists… in the end, he had good moments in a difficult match. Including against Chelsea, Man United, Real Madrid.” De Bruyne’s words point to Doku’s ability to adapt and perform under pressure—an essential trait in City’s high-stakes environment.
Injury Setback
Although he has notched two goals and two assists in 11 appearances so far this season, Doku recently joined the list of City players sidelined with injuries after their 2-1 win over Wolves. Despite this setback, Doku’s positive attitude and the team’s strong camaraderie remain clear. His comments on the squad’s vibe suggest a welcoming culture at City, potentially making it an attractive destination for future talents.
