Chelsea Star Enzo Fernandez and Wife Valentina Cervantes Announce Separation: Here’s What They Shared
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and his wife Valentina Cervantes, who share two children together, have publicly announced their decision to separate. The 23-year-old Argentina international and his wife revealed their news on social media, with Valentina calling for peace and respect in light of their decision.
On Instagram, Valentina wrote, “Enzo and I have decided to take some distance from each other today. But we will always be family, and we will support each other in everything. Because there are two children involved who need a lot of love from us.” She added, “I know the person Enzo is and what an excellent father he is, as well as the heart he has. And that is enough for me. Please don’t try to create conflicts where there are none.”
Reports from Argentina suggest that Enzo, who has been navigating the demands of a high-profile career, expressed a desire for independence, feeling a need to experience aspects of life he set aside by choosing family at a young age.
Since his record-breaking £105 million transfer to Chelsea from Benfica in early 2023, Fernandez has faced challenges both on and off the pitch. He was named to Chelsea’s leadership group, even stepping in as captain for six of the first seven Premier League games this season. However, his role recently shifted, with Romeo Lavia securing the starting spot.
Fernandez’s form has been a talking point, especially after a tough performance against Newcastle, where manager Enzo Maresca was visibly frustrated by a misplaced pass that nearly gave Newcastle a chance on goal. Reflecting on Chelsea’s loss to Newcastle, Maresca commented, “If we analyse the performance, I think [making 11 changes] worked… But I know the most important thing is the result.”
As Fernandez navigates this difficult season, both professionally and personally, fans and the club will be watching closely, hopeful for a strong return to form.
