Jeremy Doku Withdrawn from Belgium Squad as Injury Concerns Mount for Man City
Jeremy Doku has become the fifth Manchester City player to be pulled from international duty, with the winger being deemed unfit to represent Belgium in their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches. Doku, who missed City’s recent 2-1 loss to Brighton, has been dealing with a quad injury that has led to his withdrawal from the national team.
Belgium confirmed the decision to remove Doku from their squad via a statement on X, and it was an outcome widely anticipated after Pep Guardiola‘s comments regarding the injury. After the match against Brighton, Guardiola revealed that Doku was struggling with a muscle issue in his quadriceps. When asked for an update, Guardiola said: “He has some muscular problems in his quadriceps. He doesn’t feel good, he cannot run at full speed. After the international break, when we arrive, we will make a test, and we’ll make a selection, and we’ll see how they feel.”
Doku’s injury has added to the list of Manchester City players withdrawn from international duty, with Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Matheus Nunes, and Manuel Akanji also being excused from their national team commitments. While this has raised concerns for the world champions, the extended rest will benefit City as they manage a demanding schedule.
With Doku unable to play for Belgium due to injury, it is hoped that he will be able to recover in time for City’s important Premier League fixture against Tottenham after the international break.
