“Historic Move: Man City Welcomes Back Former Star in Groundbreaking Executive Role!”

Manchester City has announced the appointment of Steph Houghton as their newest club ambassador, marking her as the first female to hold this prestigious role.

In her ambassadorial position, Houghton will join esteemed former players like Mike Summerbee, Joleon Lescott, and Shaun Wright-Phillips in representing City globally. She recently attended the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where she celebrated Rodri’s victory in receiving the top honor.

A trailblazer for women’s football, Houghton was City’s first professional captain and holds the club record for appearances. Earlier this year, she retired as a player after a distinguished career, which included 121 international caps for England. Regarded as one of the best players of her generation, her legacy continues through this new role.

“I’m really honoured,” Houghton shared on the club’s website. “For me to be here in this capacity is something I wanted to do, but as soon as the club asked me, I was like, ‘definitely.’ I want to represent the club, what it stands for, and its values.” Houghton also emphasized her commitment to supporting all levels of the club, “not just the women’s game but the men’s game [as well].”

Beyond her ambassador duties, Houghton will take on the role of project officer, working with City’s Insights Team to gain hands-on experience across various football departments. At 36, she is expected to reconnect with former teammates and coaching staff, offering support as needed.
