“From Liverpool Legend to Man City Mentor: Why This England Hero Is Backing the Next Generation”

Heskey Legacy: Emile’s Sons Shine at Manchester City Academy

Former England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey is watching his sons, Jaden and Reigan Heskey, make waves at Manchester City’s academy, forming a unique partnership both on and off the pitch. However, Heskey admits he missed a milestone moment: “I actually missed [Jaden’s debut]. I fell asleep! I didn’t think he’d come on,” he revealed, recalling the 3am friendly against Barcelona where Jaden replaced Jack Grealish, Emile’s former Aston Villa teammate.

A Father’s Approach to Nurturing Talent

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Emile outlined his philosophy on parenting his footballing sons: “The one thing I always said to them was to let them enjoy their football, that’s what it’s all about.”

While offering advice when needed, he prefers to stay in the background. “It’s their career. If I give advice that goes against the manager, what happens? I try to enjoy being a dad and watching them play rather than acting like a coach.”

This hands-off approach has resonated with both boys. Reigan, 16, explained: “If I need advice, I go to them—to my dad and Jaden. It’s not so much pressure but big shoes to fill. I’m happy to be near him.”

Dynamic Duo: Jaden and Reigan’s Partnership

Both Heskey brothers are thriving in City’s academy:

  • Jaden Heskey, 18, is a commanding presence, wearing the captain’s armband and scoring in last season’s FA Youth Cup final.
  • Reigan Heskey, 16, has been in blistering form, with 14 goals in 15 games this term, catching the attention of City fans.

Emile expressed pride in their bond: “It’s good to see them playing together now—one’s captain, the other’s scoring for fun.”

Their chemistry on the pitch is evident. “We grew up playing in the back garden. I know him well, he knows me well,” Reigan said. “When he tries something, I can go off that with my movement.”

Coaches and Family Support

City’s EDS coach Ben Wilkinson praised Reigan’s development: “He’s got obvious physical attributes and real quality when he comes inside. He’s showing good variety in his game and is on the right track.”

Meanwhile, the Heskey family rallies behind the brothers. “Jaden’s the big brother,” Emile said. “He helps Reigan navigate the ups and downs because he’s been there longer.”

A Bright Future Ahead

Emile’s decision to choose City’s academy over Liverpool’s has paid off, thanks to its coaching and playing style. He’s confident this is just the beginning for his sons. “That’s what they want—to play first-team football,” he said.

With both Jaden and Reigan continuing to excel, it’s clear the Heskey name is destined to leave its mark at Manchester City—and Emile will be watching proudly as they do.
