Meet Leah Pruett: The Racing Champion Who Stole NASCAR Legend Tony Stewart’s Heart—and Why He’s Taking Her Spot on the Track!

Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett Welcome Baby Boy, Reflecting on Love, Racing, and Family

Tony Stewart, a three-time NASCAR champion and Hall of Famer, and his wife Leah Pruett, a two-time NHRA world champion, began their journey together in 2021. Now, the power couple has reached another milestone as they welcomed their son, Dominic James, on November 17, 2024.

The pair first announced their pregnancy in June 2024, marking a new chapter in their lives. Their love story began right before the COVID-19 pandemic, and their shared passion for racing solidified their bond during the lockdown.

“It’s nice to be with somebody who is also involved in racing and understands it,” Stewart said during a 2021 episode of the Stewart-Haas Radio podcast, emphasizing how their mutual understanding of racing demands strengthened their connection.

Pruett’s Early Racing Career and Passion for Motorsports

Leah Pruett began her racing career at just eight years old in Junior Dragsters. Her passion for motorsports was inspired by her father, who owned a small automotive repair shop. “I always loved cars,” she said in an interview with Mobil 1. Witnessing a national event at 12, she decided, “I knew I wanted to be a part of this mechanical ballet.”

Pruett’s dedication led her to 18 career victories before she paused her racing career in 2024 to focus on starting a family.

Their Love Story: From Meeting to Marriage

The couple met through Don “the Snake” Prudhomme, who introduced them. At the time, both were in other relationships. However, after their respective relationships ended, their connection deepened.

Stewart recalled their first meeting fondly, sharing on the Dale Jr. Download podcast how he drove through the night to meet Pruett for lunch. “That was different,” he remembered after spending the entire day together.

Their relationship blossomed during quarantine, with Stewart spending four months at Pruett’s home in Arizona. By March 2021, they were engaged, and they tied the knot eight months later. Stewart described Pruett as “motivated, hard-working, funny as hell, and as dedicated to her sport as anyone I’ve ever known.”

Welcoming Baby Dominic

The couple announced their baby’s arrival with excitement. “I’m so excited to start a family with this incredibly beautiful love of my life, Leah Pruett,” Stewart shared on social media.

Dominic’s birth added a new layer to their lives, with Stewart balancing his racing commitments during Pruett’s labor. “I didn’t win a championship. I didn’t win a race today, but I feel like I put today in the category of wins and championships,” Stewart reflected after the race.

Pruett’s Advocacy and Future Plans

During her pregnancy, Pruett spearheaded a policy change in the NHRA, allowing drivers to arrange replacements for medical reasons without losing points or sponsorships. She shared, “There were really not a lot of options in regard to having a family and racing at the same time.”

While Pruett plans to return to driving, she is focused on motherhood for now. “I want to do the best job I can being a mom before I can get back in that seat,” she said.

In the meantime, Pruett remains active in the sport, assisting with organizing Stewart’s drag racing team. She also enjoys the managerial aspect of her role, saying, “If my passion had always been just in driving, I’d be out of luck, but it’s not.”

A Bright Future Ahead

As Tony Stewart and Leah Pruett navigate their new roles as parents, they continue to inspire through their shared dedication to racing and family. With their son Dominic now part of the journey, the couple’s story reflects a perfect blend of passion, perseverance, and love.
