“Luke Doty Shocks Fans with Big Decision: One Final Ride as a Gamecock in 2025!”

Live Update: Luke Doty Confirms Return to South Carolina for the 2025 Season

In a major update for Gamecock fans, Luke Doty has confirmed he will return to South Carolina for the 2025 season, marking his sixth year with the team. Doty, who did not participate in Senior Day on Nov. 23, solidified his decision on Sunday following bowl practice.

Absolutely,” Doty said when asked if he’d be back for one final season.

A former four-star quarterback from Myrtle Beach High, Doty transitioned positions during his tenure at USC and has seen reduced playing time each year. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to head coach Shane Beamer’s program.

As South Carolina prepares for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against Illinois on Tuesday, Doty has appeared in 11 games this season, starting one. His stats include three catches for 17 yards—far from his quarterbacking days. Yet, unlike many in his position who would have entered the transfer portal, Doty has chosen to stay.

He’ll not only return as a vital locker-room leader but also as the sole remaining member of South Carolina’s 2020 recruiting class on the 2025 roster.

Doty’s Aspirations

Doty, who is nearing completion of his master’s degree, remains grounded in his goals.

“Just continue to be me, be who I am on a day-to-day basis,” Doty said Sunday. “A great teammate, a guy that’s going to show up every day and be consistent. Whether I’m playing receiver, quarterback, running back, special teams, offense, just being the best version of myself every single day, putting myself and my teammates in the best position to succeed.”

NIL and Beyond

Doty is among South Carolina’s most visible athletes, with NIL deals including partnerships with Midas, Granger Owings, Goings Law Firm, and Myrtle Beach’s Native Sons. He also hosts a podcast, “Whole 9 Yards with Luke Doty,” through The Garnet Trust.

While NIL opportunities could tempt athletes to leave, Doty values the relationships and long-term impact of these deals.

“Money is in high demand right now with the way things are going,” he admitted. “But I’m not all about the money. I came in 2020 when this whole thing was just an idea. I came to school because it was a place that I loved and knew I could get a great education and set myself up for 40 years down the road.

“With the NIL stuff, it’s all about the relationships you make … not always about how much you’re getting paid, but how that can affect your life later on down the road.”

Looking Ahead

Doty, set to graduate in May, joked that he might take “golf or yoga” next fall to remain eligible.

“Being able to come away with two degrees from this university is something I’m extremely grateful for,” he shared.

Stay tuned for updates as South Carolina heads into their Citrus Bowl showdown and Doty prepares for his final collegiate season.
