Texas Longhorns Gear Up for 2025 After Strong SEC Debut and College Football Playoff Run
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Longhorns are entering their second season in the SEC, fresh off an impressive 13-3 record and a run to the College Football Playoff (CFP). While their debut season in the conference didn’t end with a championship, Texas proved it belongs among the elite.
The Longhorns finished 7-1 in SEC play, with their only conference loss coming in the SEC Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Their season concluded with a hard-fought CFP semifinal loss to the eventual national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, at the Cotton Bowl.
Key Contributors Move On, But Trey Moore Returns
Following the season, the Longhorns saw several stars declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, including standout quarterback Quinn Ewers. However, the team received a major boost when linebacker Trey Moore announced his return for a second season in Austin.
“Run it back,” Moore wrote in a social media post, signaling his determination to help Texas contend for a national title in 2025.
Moore, who began his college career at UTSA in 2021, transferred to Texas in 2024 and made an immediate impact. In his first season in a Power Four conference, the linebacker recorded 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and one pass deflection, becoming a key piece of Texas’ defense.
A Season of Ranked Wins
Moore’s contributions were critical in Texas earning victories over six ranked opponents: Michigan, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Clemson, and Arizona State. These wins underscored the Longhorns’ ability to compete at the highest level in their inaugural SEC campaign.
2025 Season Kicks Off With a Rematch
As Texas shifts focus to the 2025 season, they’ll face a high-stakes rematch in Week 1 against the Ohio State Buckeyes, who ended their championship dreams in 2024.
With Moore leading the defense and a talented roster ready to prove itself once again, the Longhorns are poised to make another strong push in the SEC and beyond.
