As the February 28 commitment date approaches, South Carolina remains firmly in contention for Bear McWhorter, a highly sought-after offensive lineman from Cass High School in Cartersville, Georgia. McWhorter, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 295 pounds, has narrowed his choices to five programs: South Carolina, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, and Michigan.

Despite being a three-star prospect, McWhorter has garnered significant attention due to his impressive performance on the field. Notably, he has visited South Carolina multiple times and has established connections within the program. The Gamecocks’ coaching staff has reciprocated interest, making visits to see him in Georgia.

However, Alabama is perceived as a strong contender, partly because McWhorter was named after the legendary Bear Bryant and grew up an Alabama fan.
As the decision day nears, South Carolina continues to actively pursue McWhorter, aiming to bolster their offensive line with his commitment. The outcome of this recruiting battle will be pivotal for the Gamecocks’ 2026 class.
