Manchester City inquired about Barcelona’s rising star Alejandro Balde earlier this year, but they were flatly rejected, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitch (h/t SPORT).
In 2021/22, the left-back, who was then 19 years old, had a standout debut season, unseating Jordi Alba to take over as the team’s starting left-back and securing his position as the top pick in the position.
The young Spaniard, who made an impression the previous season, is off to a strong start this one, solidifying his place among the top young left-backs in the league.
Balde was a target for Man City.
And now it has come to light that Manchester City had their eye on Balde and even contacted Barcelona regarding the La Masia academy graduate.
Balde was one of the young talents that the Cityzens have been scouting at Barcelona in recent months.
The English and European champions made their overture, according to the report, at the end of April of last year.
As part of an exchange deal for Balde, Pep Guardiola’s team was prepared to make a bid or even put up a player.
But Barcelona responded to the Premier League champions with a resounding no.
The Blaugrana never considered the possibility of a sale, so there were in fact no lengthy negotiations or any numbers mentioned.
A new contract is soon to be signed.
The current contract for Balde is set to expire in 2024, but a new agreement has been reached.
An announcement is expected soon regarding the 19-year-old’s contract renewal, which will extend until 2028 and include a €1 billion release clause.
In addition to donning the No. 1 jersey, Balde has already been registered as a first-team player.
His rapid growth merits a new contract and a 3 shirt.
