Phil Foden thinks that a struggling Manchester City might receive a much-needed boost from the Club World Cup.
In the end, Pep Guardiola’s team established themselves in Manchester City’s inaugural FIFA Club World Cup match, defeating Asian champions Urawa Red Diamonds 3-0.
However, the well-earned victory comes at a difficult moment for the Etihad team at home, as they have lost four of their previous five Premier League games and are now trailing the Blues in the race for the Premier League title.
The Etihad team is five points behind first place after 17 games played. But Phil Foden, a young player for City, is optimistic about the possibility that the Saudi Arabian tournament will provide some much-needed momentum.
“Going back to winning ways felt good,” Foden remarked. “It was like playing with us again, the way we used to play against Urawa Red Diamonds on Tuesday.”
“It was in control. We should, in my opinion, take our chances, maintain the ball, and build up more slowly.
“I believe we did that on Tuesday night in the second half when they grew weary and gaps appeared. Right now, all we want is to continue.
As we move on to the championship game, City, the Premier League team, will take on Fluminense, the Copa Libertadores winners, in an attempt to secure their first-ever Club World Cup victory. In the other semifinal match, Brazilian team Al Ahly defeated Egyptian club Al Ahly.
After concluding the tournament in Saudi Arabia, Pep Guardiola’s team will have to quickly turn their attention back to domestic matters as they take on Everton in an attempt to start pursuing league leaders Arsenal.
The Blues could be in prime position to win a Premier League title for a record-breaking fourth time in a row if they can dig themselves out of their current hole.
