Rob Holding, a 27-year-old exile from Arsenal, is reportedly being talked about by Turkish powerhouse Besiktas for a potential summer transfer.
Besiktas is reportedly interested in Rob Holding, according to reputable French journalist Loic Tanzi. During the current transfer window, Arsenal will probably part ways with the 27-year-old. And in an attempt to sign the player this summer, the Turkish powerhouses have begun negotiations with the North London team.
Before Rob Holding was promoted from the club’s youth division, he was a member of Bolton Wanderers for the majority of his formative years. Half a decade ago, the English defender made his way into Bolton’s starting lineup. He was acclaimed as the Three Lions’ future backfield player by both fans and pundits. He was being courted by a number of elite clubs however.
When Holding left Bolton in July 2016, Arsenal outperformed the opposition. Even though the player had early success in his Arsenal career, he hasn’t advanced far enough. In addition, Holding’s problems at Arsenal over the past few seasons were partially caused by fitness concerns.
The 27-year-old has represented England in youth international competitions in the past. Nevertheless, he has not yet made his Three Lions debut; his inability to make the squad has been attributed to his sluggish progress. As for Arsenal, Holding has made 162 appearances and contributed five goals.
However, with Jakub Kiwior and others arriving, the 27-year-old’s future at the Emirates is now unclear. Furthermore, according to recent reports, he is probably going to leave Arsenal during the current transfer window. There are plenty of teams interested in hiring him, and Besiktas is eager to do so this summer.
Senol Gunes has a number of center backs in his Besiktas team. However, upon closer inspection, two of them are absent. The Turkish behemoths still require a center back even after acquiring Daniel Amartey from Leicester City. Holding has also become a feasible target.
Arsenal and Besiktas are reportedly already in discussions about a potential deal for Holding, according to Loic Tanzi. And an agreement may be near given that Arsenal is prepared to pay top dollar for the 27-year-old outcast. It will also be interesting to watch if the Englishman stays in Turkey to further his career.
