Since acquiring the team, Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, has lavished enormous sums of money on players.
In an attempt to find a solution to their goal-scoring problems, Chelsea manager Todd Boehly is reportedly pursuing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres. However, a reported £73 million bid for the former Coventry striker was turned down by the Premier League’s biggest teams. Furthermore, Boehly has put himself in a difficult situation by allowing rival teams to firmly press their demands when it comes to doing business with the Blues regarding transfers due to his tendency to pay enormous transfer fees during his tenure as Chelsea’s manager.
Following his May 2022 purchase of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich, Boehly has spent more than £1 billion. After spending £107 million to wrest Enzo Fernandez from Benfica a year prior, the American struck an agreement to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton for a potential £115 million transfer fee.
Boehly has also spent up to £89 million on Mykhaylo Mudryk, who joined the Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk, and £75 million on Leicester’s Wesley Fofana. In the meantime, at least £50 million has been spent on players like Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Raheem Sterling, and Marc Cucurella.
Clubs quickly realized that Boehly isn’t afraid to part with a lot of cash to acquire the players he desires. And as a result, the west London company is currently being held ransom.
