Since acquiring the team, Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, has lavished enormous sums of money on players.
In an attempt to find a solution to their goal-scoring problems, Chelsea manager Todd Boehly is reportedly pursuing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres. However, a reported £73 million bid for the former Coventry striker was turned down by the Premier League’s biggest teams. Furthermore, Boehly has put himself in a difficult situation by allowing rival teams to firmly press their demands when it comes to doing business with the Blues regarding transfers due to his tendency to pay enormous transfer fees during his tenure as Chelsea’s manager.
Following his May 2022 purchase of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich, Boehly has spent more than £1 billion. After spending £107 million to wrest Enzo Fernandez from Benfica a year prior, the American struck an agreement to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton for a potential £115 million transfer fee.
Boehly has also spent up to £89 million on Mykhaylo Mudryk, who joined the Blues from Shakhtar Donetsk, and £75 million on Leicester’s Wesley Fofana. In the meantime, at least £50 million has been spent on players like Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Raheem Sterling, and Marc Cucurella.
Clubs quickly realized that Boehly isn’t afraid to part with a lot of cash to acquire the players he desires. And as a result, the west London company is currently being held ransom.

Chelsea advised to sign the “obvious” alternative instead of pursuing a transfer for Karim Benzema
During the January transfer window, Chelsea is being linked to several strikers. They have been informed, though, that Brighton’s Evan Ferguson would be a better choice than Karim Benzema.
Club legend Pat Nevin has urged Chelsea to sign Evan Ferguson rather than Karim Benzema.
It’s still widely predicted that the Blues will sign a striker in January. Currently playing for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations, Nicolas Jackson will be absent from Chelsea for the next few weeks due to international duty.
This month, manager Mauricio Pochettino might wish to explore the transfer market. Chelsea will, nevertheless, take FFP into consideration before making any major acquisitions.
Nevin, the club legend, believes that Stamford Bridge needs a new striker, and he has identified Ferguson as the player his former team should be pursuing. Nevin gave Chelsea’s reasoning for focusing on the Brighton striker rather than Benzema.
