In order to beat Manchester United to the punch, a report claims that Arsenal is getting ready to make a move for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.
In 25 appearances for Brighton last season, during which he scored 10 goals, Ferguson demonstrated his potential. Some of the top Premier League clubs are already keeping an eye on the Republic of Ireland international as a result.
The team “most likely” to make a move for him, according to Football Transfers, would be Arsenal. In light of Gabriel Jesus’s injury concerns, they have decided to strengthen the center forward position.
But according to the report, they won’t be able to move for Ferguson until 2024. The season will have an even greater impact on his value; Brighton already place a value on him in the neighborhood of £100m.
Arsenal may be prepared to raid Brighton once more when the time comes next summer after already purchasing Leandro Trossard in January and Benjamin White in 2021.
It’s also said that, despite competition from Manchester United, a rival bid from the Red Devils is more likely to happen in 2025 than in 2024.
The fact that Ferguson is reportedly a fan of Manchester United (who paid a lot of money to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta in a comparable situation this summer) means that Arsenal has a good chance of beating them to the signing of Ferguson if they can make a strong enough offer next summer.
Arsenal hopes to defeat Ferguson’s rivals.
Ferguson is viewed by Tottenham Hotspur as a player who could fill the void left by Harry Kane, so the Gunners may be able to fend off their rivals’ interest. However, doing so would require them to let go of a number of fringe players, which would make the situation unduly difficult for them.
Therefore, it appears that Arsenal has a greater chance of having Ferguson move to north London than Tottenham does.
Whoever signs Ferguson next will be making an investment in a player with a lot of potential, as Ferguson is still just 18 years old. Chelsea recently paid Brighton a British record fee for Moises Caicedo, and Brighton is aware of this and may even demand another increase.
This summer, Declan Rice from West Ham was signed by Arsenal, breaking their own transfer record. Although it seems unlikely that they will do so again in the coming week or so, they might be preparing for another significant investment in the upcoming year.
Eddie Nketiah, Jesus’s current deputy, and Jesus himself will still be under contract for three years at that point. It appears, though, that Arsenal is open to further adjusting their attack.
Though he is still under contract, Folarin Balogun is also likely to depart given the lack of assurances regarding consistent first-team action. Moving to Chelsea in London has been suggested for him.
