Kyle Walker has explained how he ended up taking the decisive penalty for Manchester City in their UEFA Super Cup victory over Sevilla.
The fullback and former City midfielder Michael Brown appeared in a video for the team’s official YouTube channel.
City won their first trophy of the year last month.
In the Super Cup in Greece, Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Sevilla of Spain.
Youssef En-Nesyri scored for City, which put them down in the match.
The second-half header from Cole Palmer, however, brought Rodri’s goal back to even.
In the penalty shootout, Walker took the fifth kick, shocking some City supporters.
Additionally, the 33-year-old has now explained how he came to actually take it.

Walker took what would be City’s final penalty kick, and City converted all five of them.
The fifth kick was taken by Nemanja Gudelj for Sevilla, but he struck the crossbar.
Walker has now revealed that Pep Guardiola actually picked him to take the fifth kick that night, shocking City supporters who had expected someone else to step up.
Typically, Pep lets the players who are feeling confident volunteer.
Walker said to Brown, “I’m standing at the back, stepping aside. in the very back. I’m not interested in getting involved. Given that we just lost to Arsenal on penalties (in the Community Shield), he tells us in the huddle, “So this time, I’m going to choose the penalties.”.
“Oh, I’m buzzing, he knows I don’t like them and I’m not going to take one, fantastic!,” I think.
“He said, ‘Erling at number one, Julian at number two, Kovacic at number three, Grealish at number four, and Kyle at number five, who’s going to win it for us. He looked at me with a smile and said, “The God’s honest truth, “He’s going to win it for us… Kyle!”. You’ve got it wrong, mate, I said as I turned to face him.
Walker went on to say that he is afraid of making mistakes because he might disappoint the team.
Pep made a strange but wise choice.
Given how much Walker despises the idea of accepting a penalty, it is fascinating to hear him say this.
He made it clear that he didn’t want to use one.
Yet Pep chose him as the fifth taker.
In his professional life, the Spaniard has made a number of odd calls.
However, one could contend that he has a plan behind his madness.
Most of the time, he is correct, and Walker scoring last month was obviously proof of his judgment.
He knew in his bones that the England international would save him.
even though the punishment wasn’t the strongest possible.
