After the Arsenal forward stole his goal celebration during the North London Derby, Tottenham playmaker James Maddison joked that he would speak with Bukayo Saka.
After Bukayo Saka imitated his goal celebration during a tense North London Derby on Sunday, James Maddison took a playful dig at the Arsenal forward.
In an exciting game that ended with a score of 2-2, both Maddison, 26, and Saka, 22, shone for their respective teams.
Cristiano Romero’s deflection of Saka’s shot gave Arsenal the early advantage before Son Heung-min tied the score for Tottenham on the final play of the half after Maddison set him up.
Early in the second half, Saka restored Arsenal’s lead, but just 27 seconds later, Maddison stole the ball from Jorginho and played it in to Son for a goal to tie the score. Saka celebrated his goals by imitating Maddison’s darts-inspired celebration, but the England winger received the cold shoulder from his international teammate during the play that led to Spurs’ opening goal.
Once the dust had settled, Madison discovered the humor in the situation.
The Tottenham playmaker made the following joke after the game: “Me and Bukayo had a bit of banter and a bit of trash talking, if you like, on international duty.
“I heard he participated in the darts celebration.
I’ll have a quick talk with him in there because I must have caught him doing it again when I turned him for the first goal.”.
Since joining Ange Postecoglou’s team from Leicester in the summer, Maddison has had an incredible start to life at Tottenham.
Following his pair of assists on Sunday, he has now registered two goals and four assists in just six Premier League games this season.
Despite Spurs’ unfavorable reputation as a soft team in recent years, Maddison insists that their valiant comeback at the Emirates highlights the significant advancement they have already made under Postecoglou.

James Maddison made light of the fact that he would be yelling at Bukayo Saka.
Neutrals frequently disparage Tottenham by calling them soft, weak, bottle it, Spursy, and other nonsense, he continued. I believe the past few weeks indicate we might be moving in a different direction.”.
When Maddison collapsed to the ground in pain after a collision in the second half, Tottenham fans were on the edge of their seats.
Although Maddison’s knee extended badly, he was still able to continue playing.
After the game, when he also provided an update on Brennan Johnson, who appeared to have suffered a hamstring injury, Postecoglou played down rumors of an injury.
“I’m not sure with Brennan, he felt his hamstring,” he remarked.
Despite not being at full strength prior to the game, Madders played well.”.
