Ivan Toney has been transferred to Chelsea for £160 million as Mauricio Pochettino considers a double departure.

During the January transfer window, Brentford striker Ivan Toney is being pursued by a number of teams, including Chelsea.

Brentford, England – APRIL 29: Brentford’s Ivan Toney sprints for the ball during the Brentford FC vs. Nottingham Forest Premier League game at Brentford Community Stadium on April 29, 2023.

Chelsea may try to raise money to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney by selling Trevoh Chalobah and Ian Maatsen. London is aware that the England international has piqued the interest of the Blues for some time, and that a move for the Brentford striker may be taken into consideration.

As he plans to leave the Gtech Community Stadium, Toney recently changed agencies. Brentford values the 27-year-old striker at £100 million. Chelsea is looking to add a striker to their lineup after Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson failed to demonstrate their consistency in scoring goals.

If the west Londoners hope to add a few more players this month, they will need to raise additional money through player sales after their £350 million summer spending spree. Borussia Dortmund is showing interest in Maatsen following his rejection of a summer return to Burnley.

Chalobah, meanwhile, stayed at Stamford Bridge after his summer transfer to Bayern Munich fell through. However, the German powerhouse has recently rekindled their interest in the 24-year-old and may make another attempt to sign the defender. Bayern have reportedly reached out to Chalobah and are in talks about a possible loan arrangement, according to Sky Germany.

Since that all of Chelsea’s available spots for international loans are currently taken, this is not ideal for the club right now. According to a report published today in the Independent, the Blues will most likely need to raise at least £160 million in order to sign Toney in January.

Given that Toney, 27, is entering the last 18 months of his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford’s £100 million valuation may deter prospective suitors from making a move to sign him this month. Conor Gallagher is a midfield player who Chelsea may try to sell in order to raise additional money, but football.london is aware that the player wants to stay at Stamford Bridge past the January transfer window.
