Chelsea may have to wait for their opportunity to sign Victor Osimhen, despite the striker’s insistence that he “definitely” wants to play in the Premier League.
Following his Serie A championship-winning season with Napoli, the Nigerian recently inked a new deal with the team and quashed rumors that he would be heading to Saudi Arabia.
If a team comes calling for Osimhen’s services, the Italians will probably demand the full £112 million release clause.
The 25-year-old has also stated that he wants to play in England, but he has advised any prospective bidders to postpone their plans.
In response to the question of whether he wants to play in the Premier League, he told Sky Sports, “Of course one day, definitely.”
“But for the time being, I’m excited about other career plans I have. So, everyone is aware when the time comes.
Chelsea’s top priority is to acquire a new striker, so they won’t be able to pay Osimhen’s transfer fee this month.
He is currently representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, and he has stated that staying in Italy was largely influenced by his friendship with Aurelio De Laurentiis, the president of Napoli.
“I am content with the president,” Osimhen continued. “My relationship with him is good. I’m not going to lie. He has been a part of my life since I joined the team in 2020.
In my opinion, it is always crucial to maintain a positive relationship with his family, no matter what has happened. I am in a good relationship with his family as well.
He has therefore been the kind of president who has encouraged me off the field, and I naturally make sure to give it everything I’ve got to win the Scudetto for them. Being happy with the club’s owner and having this kind of relationship is always important to me.”
