Manchester City is on the verge of completing their first major signing of the transfer window with Brazilian forward Savio. The deal for the Troyes winger is expected to be finalized this week after City navigated all necessary regulatory hurdles to secure the player from their fellow City Football Group club. The Premier League had to be assured that City was paying fair market value, which experts estimate to be around £40 million.
Savio, who never played for Troyes, found his stride with another CFG team, Girona. He had an impressive season, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists, which helped Girona secure third place in La Liga and a spot in the Champions League. The 20-year-old’s stellar performance also earned him a call-up to the Brazil squad, where he made a notable impact during an otherwise underwhelming Copa America campaign.
Even though Savio is set to be confirmed as a City player this week, he is unlikely to join Pep Guardiola’s squad on their pre-season tour as he continues his rest following the Copa America. However, once he returns, he is expected to have a strong chance of integrating into Manchester City’s first team for the upcoming season.
City’s transfer activity may be limited unless there are departures from Guardiola’s squad. Despite reports linking the club to RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, interest in the player has been dismissed due to his release clause. Additionally, while Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne have attracted significant attention from the Saudi Pro League, Manchester City is not looking to part with either of their key players.
