Manchester City Completes Savio Signing: Brazilian Star Ready for Premier League
Manchester City has made a significant move in the summer transfer window by securing Brazilian winger Savio from Troyes for an initial fee of £21 million, with potential add-ons amounting to £12.6 million.
Savio Joins on a Five-Year Deal
The 20-year-old talent has signed a five-year contract with Manchester City and will don the No. 26 shirt. After representing Brazil at the Copa America in the United States, he will join his new teammates following the club’s US tour.
Savio’s journey to Manchester City wasn’t straightforward. Having joined the City Football Group network two years ago, he initially moved to Troyes for a fee of €6.5 million, with an additional €6 million in potential add-ons. Although he never played competitively for Troyes, he had a mixed spell on loan at PSV Eindhoven and found his stride at Girona last season, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists to help the club finish third in La Liga.
Excitement and Ambition
Expressing his enthusiasm, Savio said, “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners. Everyone knows they are the best team in the world right now, so to be here is very exciting for me. I’m excited about the chance to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches ever, and someone I know will help me improve even more.”
Savio could potentially debut in the Community Shield against Manchester United on Saturday, August 10, or in the Premier League opener at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, August 18.
High Hopes from the Club
Manchester City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, has high expectations for the new signing. “Savinho is a very exciting player and I think the City fans are really going to enjoy watching him,” he said. “What he achieved last season at Girona was remarkable and he is already a full Brazil international. He has a big role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond.”
Begiristain emphasized Savio’s potential under Guardiola’s guidance, noting, “He is still young and has the potential to become even better, and everyone knows that Pep is the best at helping players develop further. But he has already shown his huge quality and technical ability and is an exciting addition to our attacking area.”
A Dream Come True
Savio arrived in Manchester this week to finalize his move and was immediately impressed by the club’s facilities. “From the training center to the structure of the club, everything I’ve seen today…I just got here this morning and I turned to my agent and stepfather and said, ‘there was no way I was going to turn down Manchester City’.”
Reflecting on his journey, Savio shared a personal anecdote: “Ever since I was little, growing up at Atlético Mineiro, I watched Manchester City games. I even have a friend whose dream it was to see me play for Manchester City. We played video games together and he would only play as Manchester City, so I had to play with the other teams!”
Style and Aspirations
Describing his playing style, Savio said, “I’m a Brazilian who likes to play on the front foot, to be happy, to play joyful football. I like playing one against one, making assists, scoring goals too, and helping the team. My main characteristic, what I like the most, is being happy and getting fans up off their seats.”
While he is versatile enough to play on either flank or inside, he prefers playing on the right wing. “But wherever the boss chooses to play me, I’ll help the team,” he added.
With his talent and positive attitude, Savio is set to become an exciting addition to Manchester City’s squad, eager to entertain fans and contribute to the club’s continued success.
