Manchester City has announced a youthful squad for their upcoming tour in the United States, consisting of four friendlies in preparation for their Premier League defense.
Among the 27-man squad, Pep Guardiola has included a trialist, Amar Fatah, who played on loan at Lommel last season and is currently on the books of Troyes. Despite a challenging season with injuries, Fatah is joining the team as a trialist, though a permanent move is unlikely. Guardiola hopes the experience will be beneficial for the 20-year-old winger.
Notably, first-team regulars like Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland, Ederson, Stefan Ortega, Kalvin Phillips, and Oscar Bobb are part of the traveling squad. However, many senior players are still on break after the European Championship, and Julian Alvarez is preparing for the Olympics in Paris.
With many of his senior stars unavailable, Guardiola has filled the roster with academy talents. The squad includes promising players such as Maximo Perrone, Callum Doyle, and Josh Wilson-Esbrand, who are expected to spend another season on loan. New signing Savio will join the group back in Manchester before the Community Shield, while Croatian pair Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic are set to link up with the squad.
Some notable absences include full-backs Issa Kabore and Yan Couto, who both spent last season on loan but did not make the squad despite training with the team this week.
City’s U.S. tour includes matches against Celtic in North Carolina, AC Milan in New York, Barcelona in Orlando, and Chelsea in Ohio. These games will offer prospects the chance to impress Guardiola and possibly secure a place in his plans for the upcoming season.
